Software Renovation Consulting

Jim Rhyne is the owner and founder of Software Renovation Consulting (SRC), a consulting firm specializing in conceptual information modeling and business-led transformation of core application systems.

Prior to founding SRC, Jim was a Distinguished Engineer and chief architect for the IBM Worldwide Banking Center of Excellence where he created a transformation framework for core banking systems and consulted with major banks in the US, Europe, Australia and China.

Jim has many years of architectural experience with mainframe application, database and transaction systems, including strategic architecture responsibilities for CICS and mainframe application development tools. In addition, he was one of the founding architects for Websphere and contributed to the J2EE and Java standards. This gives Jim a unique background in old world meets new world situations.

Data transformations are typically at the core of a transformation project. Business analysts often characterize a desired transformation using terms such as customer unification or product agility or customer intelligence. Each of these terms identifies a business transformation pattern that can be customized to suit the needs of a particular business. Using visual modeling and semantic web technology, Jim has created models for these kinds of patterns. The models use terms familiar to business analysts and modeling methods familiar to IT architects. They are the medium through which the business analysts and IT architects communicate to insure that the IT part of the transformation project is aligned with the business transformation. Jim's background in IT architecture, data architecture, expert systems and linguistics allows him to analyze and model a business problem and identify the relevant application and data resources.

Jim has a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a number of patents and has published papers on User Interface Technologies, Conceptual Modeling, and Software Analysis. He has advised hundreds of large businesses on IT transformation projects and technology selection.
